Volunteer Spotlight: Maria Johnson, Gala Silent Auction Committee Chair
By Maria Johnson, Gala Silent Auction Committee Chair & Volunteer
I have never met Brent Taylor, but the moment I heard about his death I was captivated. Our family attended his funeral, and we were drawn in by the integrity of this man and family. We wanted to help, but were not sure the best way to do that.
As the weeks passed, we signed up on meal train emails going around and took dinner to the Taylor’s every so often.
I knew I wanted to be friends with Jennie. She had such an incredible presence about her. Jennie and I ended up attending PTSA meetings at the local junior high.
When our family heard of the things Jennie was hoping to start we wanted to be a part of this “Major Brent Taylor Foundation”. We are amazed at the goodness this Foundation gives to benefit the lives of so many! We feel honored and blessed to do our part to help make the foundation and its cause as successful as it possibly can be.
Since 2019, when November rolls around we have loved hiking to “The Major”. We also love all the events leading up to Veterans Day.
The MBTF Gala is no different. Every year I continue to be amazed by the overwhelming generosity from the communities the MBTF touches. The thousands of items that have poured in by other volunteers and kind donors continue to be a blessing and an answer to prayer.
Blitzing through 400-500 yards of cellophane each year I still believe each basket looks magical the night of the Gala.
If you have never attended, please plan to join us Nov 7, 2025, for an unforgettable night you don’t want to miss!
