From November 2nd to November 17th this year, Coldwater Canyon, east of North Ogden, will once again witness a breathtaking spectacle. For the fifth consecutive year, a massive 150-by-78-foot American flag will unfurl above the canyon, honoring the legacy of Major Brent Taylor, the former North Ogden mayor and a dedicated Utah Army National Guard serviceman.
Known affectionately as The Major, it symbolizes hope, gratitude, and patriotism. This tradition, while initiated by the Major Brent Taylor Foundation, is a collaborative effort. The Honor the Hero Foundation also plays a vital role in rigging and placing the flag, emphasizing community involvement in this grand tribute.
The stars and stripes that flutter above serve as a powerful reminder, urging citizens to not only express gratitude to veterans but also contemplate the profound meaning behind the red, white, and blue banner. It represents the sacrifices made for freedom, the founding ideals of the United States, and the responsibility each citizen bears in upholding those principles.
Now, here’s your chance to be part of this inspiring tradition! We invite volunteers to join us on the 2-mile hike from the 2750 North Trailhead in North Ogden on November 2nd to witness the flag up close. On November 17th, we will carefully lower the Major’s flag, concluding this annual event. But its impact and message will endure, inspiring countless individuals to appreciate their freedom and take action for the greater good. Don’t miss this opportunity to be a part of something truly special.
