February 3 – Four Chaplains Day – according to Wikipedia, The Four Chaplains, also referred to as the Immortal Chaplains or the Dorchester Chaplains, were four chaplains who died rescuing civilian and military personnel as the American troop ship SS Dorchester sank on February 3, 1943, in what has been referred to as the one of the worst sea disasters of World War II. This is a day to honor their memory, as well as all past and present military chaplains.
February 4 – USO Birthday – the USO or United Service Organizations, is a non-profit, charitable corporation chartered by U.S. Congress and has been around since World War II. Utah USO Centers are located at Utah military installations, as well as at the Salt Lake International Airport. For more information visit their website.
February 9 – 15 National Salute to Veteran Patients Week – This year’s National Salute to Veteran Patients week will be observed Feb. 9 – 15, at all VA medical facilities (it is usually scheduled around Valentines Day). This can be a great time for youth groups, members of the public and Veteran Service Organizations to schedule a visit to spend time with a hospitalized Veteran.
