Volunteer Spotlight: Kiersten Wilcox, 9/11 Project Manager & Volunteer
Since 2021, I have had the privilege of working with the Major Brent Taylor Foundation, beginning as an intern fresh out of college. What started as an internship quickly became one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. My first major project with the Foundation was assisting with the inaugural “Weber Remembers” 9/11 event. That experience was both educational and inspiring, and when the opportunity arose to take on a larger role, I embraced it wholeheartedly.
Now, as the 9/11 Project Manager, I oversee the logistics of our annual remembrance event, ensuring that every detail is in place and that our incredible volunteers have the support they need.
With this being the fifth year of the project, I take great pride in its continued growth and the impact it has on our community. I have witnessed firsthand how deeply this event resonates with people, from those who lived through September 11, 2001, to the younger generations who are learning about its significance for the first time.
One of my greatest passions in this role is ensuring that schoolchildren across Utah understand not only the tragic events of that day but also the incredible unity and resilience that followed on September 12. I believe that by educating future generations about 9/11, we can preserve the lessons of courage, sacrifice, and coming together as a nation.
Working with the Foundation has been more than just a job—it has been an opportunity to give back to my community in a truly meaningful way. The words and emotions of those who attend our events reaffirm the importance of what we do. People have shared how much it means to have a place to reflect, remember, and learn, and their gratitude fuels my commitment to this work.
The Major Brent Taylor Foundation is dedicated to honoring those involved in 9/11 and the War on Terror, providing communities with opportunities to remember and learn. I am honored to play a role in this mission and look forward to continuing to make a difference through our events and initiatives.
